Review content:
My friend who is a UNC graduate just introduced me to this place when I visited her this week. Sugarland is a unique dessert cafe, that features a full bakery, a gelatoria, in a meticulously restored 100 year old building.
We shared several of the desserts, including a slice of a sinfully rich, but not overly sweet toffee mousse cake, covered with salty macadamia nuts and English toffee pieces with the name of Lumpy Bumpy Cake. My friend had the key lime tart, which also was to die for. We brought bake an assortment of cupcakes for the guys who had stayed at home watching football while we wandered Franklin St, and they wolfed them down, with special raves for the pumpkin chocolate chip ones, a moist pumpkin laced spice cake, filled with tiny, tiny chocolate chips, and covered with the best cream cheese icing I have ever had.
It was so good that we went back the next day, and Donnie and I had the Gelato, and it was as good as anything I had had in my two trips to Italy when I was in school. The blood orange gelato is amazing, so complex and intense a taste in a creamy orange gelato.
We are just over in Raleigh, and I can tell you that we will be back again the next time we are in the neigborhood.
Pros: Outstanding Bakery & Gelatoria
Cons: None
