Review content:
After my second visit to the new ""10th Street Live,"" I am thrilled to say it is my new home. Each experience was very unique in its own way, but an enthusiastic ""thumbs up"" was deserved each time. I had heard about their Monday open mic night, and decided to check it out for myself in mid-December. I arrived at about 9pm for what seemed to be a very nice rotation of singer-songwriters. Definitely a perfect accompaniment for the delicious bacon cheeseburger and pint of Brooklyn Lager. By the time I finished my meal, the music was really starting to pick up. I learned that the bar always leaves a full back line of instruments on stage, and before too long, a three piece funk jam was fully underway. I've never seen an open mic night that has that wide of a format. After watching for a short while, I mustered up the courage to sit in on drums, and I was very welcomed. All of the musicians that seem to frequent the open mic night were very friendly and had a great vibe. Again, a first for me. This past Monday, I was able to make it out again and was treated to an entirely different set of influences. What again started out as a nice rotation of acoustic music gradually progressed into a full band jam. Almost every style of music I can think of was represented that night. I heard jazz-influenced guitars, rock n' roll standards, hip hop infused jams, and even some stand up comedy! All of this was widely appreciated and accepted from everyone in attendance. They really have something special going on at 10th Street Live. I am looking forward to being a regular musician there for the foreseeable future. I implore all you musicians out there to come meet your peers and participate in the fun!
