Review content:
Maybe I was at a different Kabuki than everyone else...? haha no, I was not. My experience was horrible. I went there today (Thursday) after having read good reviews online. This is a warning - stay far away from this restaurant!\r
\r
The service was excellent. I'll start off with that. They attended to me well.\r
\r
But the sushi was just terrible. Whenever I go to a new place, I get a rainbow roll, an eel roll, and amaebi (sweet shrimp). This is because these orders are hard to screw up and because you can tell how the chain does sushi by how they serve the rainbow and eel rolls.\r
\r
The rainbow roll had very little fish on it (compared to those I get elsewhere). It was mostly rice with a lot of avocado. The fish (salmon, tuna, shrimp, and yellowtail) was not very fresh and pretty flavorless. I definitely wouldn't order the salmon or tuna here at all, based on this roll.\r
\r
The amaebi was fine. You can't screw up amaebi.\r
\r
The eel sunk the entire restaurant. I was served eel rolls which were soaked in what appeared to be eel sauce. Ordinarily, this would be a decent thing (very very good if there were slightly less, but I do love the sauce served with unagi). I ate one roll and my stomach turned. The sauce was so bad as to be almost inedible. I tried one more piece to verify what the first bite (and my nose) had told me. Yes. The worst sauce ever served with eel rolls.\r
\r
They had awful fish and they screwed up eel rolls. How can anyone like this place?\r
\r
You're in Los Angeles. Go to a sushi restaurant that's not awful. Avoid this one.\r
\r
And to be 100% fair, they had toro on the menu. The prior reviewer isn't entirely right. But then again, he/she posted the review in 2004, so who knows.
Pros: good service
Cons: horrible fish, horrible eel... that pretty much sinks it
