Review content:
Onion Creek lives up to its reputation for being a slice of Austin in the heart of Houston from the racks of expensive bicycles piled out back to the small Saturday morning farmer’s market that takes over the parking lot. One of the few places you will find people actually walking to from their homes in Houston, this is a true neighborhood gem. Folks tend to gather in groups and mingle on into the night so finding a table later in the evening can be a challenge, particularly when the weather is nice and the patio is booming. Waiting 45 minutes for your burger is commonplace but everyone is having such a great time that no one minds. Orders are placed up at the bar but servers bring food to your table based on the number placard system that has become the pub-grub staple. Even in the most immense of hungry crowds, staff remains friendly and tries to be as attentive as possible. It is truly admirable. On various visits to Onion Creek that usually involve ordering a properly made black and tan, I have fallen back on the OC Burger. Layered with chipotle mayo and avocado, it is sure to bring joy to any mouth and has not failed me yet. I’ve also tasted friends’ bacon and bleu burger, a few nibbles of pizza and even sampled the ever-popular Sunday steak night without hint of disappointment. Even if you have never been to Austin and haven’t ridden a bicycle in decades, do not fret. Onion Creek is friendly in every facet of its experience.
