We had a large and wonderful meal at Fin?s for lunch so only wanted something light for dinner. We went to the Fountain Cafe but it was packed and had a waiting list. My husband is not much of a waiter so we sought repast elsewhere and ended up at the Belmont. This one was empty, except for a couple of elderly tourist. The ambiance was great. It?s an old hotel built in 1885 and beautifully appointed and very romantic. The service was excellent. The food was another matter. We were enticed by the appetizer special of Alaskan king crab legs for $14.95 a pound (down from the regular price of $22.95 a pound) which could be ordered hot or cold. These were obviously frozen and had been steamed on order to warm them. Unfortunately, they were not steamed evenly and some were still cold and icy in the middle. For frozen crab legs the taste was fine. I had the Belmont Salad and hubby had the Blue Cheese Lover?s salad. These were simple but quite good, especially the latter. It had three excellent blue cheeses and both had delightful homemade dressing perfectly suited for their respective salads. We had been further enticed by the waiters description of one of the specials ? fresh halibut stuffed with brie and crab. We should have stopped at the salads. The halibut was undercooked and mushy and it was topped with a cream sauce made from marinated artichokes. This did not compliment the dish at all. The wine list was sufficient and we had a very nice Pinot Gris. Next time we wait at the Fountain.
