Review content:
This review is based on my personal experience and it's purpose is not to bash Miami Veterinary Specialist but to educate you based on my experience.
My 10-year old dog was experiencing stomach problems for approximately one month. My Vet referred me to Miami Vet. Specialists. My mistake was not reading reviews and doing research prior taking her there. (I assumed he knew best.) From day one, my dog was properly diagnosed and a successful surgery was performed. Yes, the surgeon saved my dog and I am forever grateful ; however, the fees and hospitality are both unacceptable. Besides the outrageous unforeseen fees, I felt , my dog and I only represented dollars to them.
To make a long story short, this is what you need to know......their practice is to give you a ""medical/surgical consent"" form which is a medical plan and cost estimate. The plan includes a low and high cost . You must pay the low cost in advance. By the final payment, usually when you pick up your pet, be fully prepared to pay the high estimate and an additional 10% . Read the consent form carefully; it mentions the 10% additional cost. To give you an example, I was given an estimate of $2287.45 - 3846.79 and ended up paying a total of $4420.00. I was not notified that the fees increased or that I was responsible for additional cost until I went to pick up my dog. If your pet has to stay overnight, the hospitalization fees apply every 12-hours.
If money and empathy are important to you, then research other animal hospitals and specialist before taking your pet to Miami Veterinary Specialist and/or any animal hospital or specialist. There is a lot of information in the internet. I wish I had.
Lastly, my dog caught Kennel Cough while hospitalized. When I mentioned it to the Dr._____, hoping he would prescribe medication, he refused to accept responsibility and said there is no way she caught the virus there. When I tried to explain to him, that my dog(s) have not left my house and other dogs don't visit, he even told me, ""stop arguing with me"". A little unprofessional, don't you think.
