Businiess name:  Grandma's Attic Moving

Review content:
In November of 2009 I was looking for a moving company. A few friends recommended various companies - some bigger corporations and others local companies. I chose to go with Grandma's Attic because it was a local company. I have always chosen to support local businesses owners over a large corporation. \r \r On moving day three movers showed up as promised. They did a great job moving out of one house and moving into the other house. All was well until about a month later when our new home was broken into. After a great investigation by the police (and a positive identification by me - we saw him parked on the side of the road the night of the break in) one of the movers from Grandma's Attic was charged with the crime. Note that this wasn't the first time this person was charged with a crime. So back on moving day this person was not only moving our belongings they were also casing out the house to see how they could get in.\r \r We were, of course, shocked by this and very upset. We contacted Grandma's Attic looking for some help to cover the costs incurred by the break in. Not to mention that I felt Grandma's Attic has an ethical obligation in this case as they hired this person and send them out to people's houses. Grandma's Attic absolutely refused to acknowledge any culpability and would not assist financially to help us cover some of the costs. Again - I was shocked by the response we received. \r \r I had always believed that local business owners would stand behind and support their customers as much as their customers were supporting them. Not the case here. We could barely get the owner to call us back as he was on vacation for 5 weeks directly after the incident. \r \r This post serves a few different purposes. First purpose - I wouldn't recommend Grandma's Attic as a moving company. It's not because one of the movers hired by this company is charged with breaking into my house (the house they helped to moved into). It's because, in my opinion, the owner of the company feels no obligation/liability in the matter and refused to help financially. Second purpose - regardless of the moving company you chose to use please ask them if they do the appropriate level of back ground checks on their employees. Who knows what other characters are out ther working for these companies. Make sure you do! Pros: Good movers on moving day Cons: One of the movers now charged with breaking into new house
