My advice to anyone considering renting at Essex Heights Apartments in Encinitas is....don't. Chances are, you will regret it:\r 1. There is no sound-attenuating insulation in the walls nor in the ceilings. You will either be constantly disturbed by adjacent residents complaining about every little sound you make, or constantly disturbed by adjacent residents making noise...you will hear your neighbor taking a shower, banging cabinet doors, washing dishes, vacuum running, television, stomping on your ceiling, and they you. It can be like walking on eggshells if you have a whiner for a neighbor. \r 2. Parking is terrible....all of the parking stalls are extra small. all of the driving lanes in the parking lots are very narrow, all of the covered parking (no garages) are also very narrow and short parking stalls; all parking is very difficult to pull into and to get out of. My properly parked vehicle was hit-and-run rear-ended one Saturday night by one of the many alcohol-abusing residents here. Many of the vehicles here have dents and scrapes on them, and broken side-view mirrors from hitting the cover posts, which are all too close to the parking spaces.\r 3. If you are physically disabled, absolutely forget about living here! Oddly 'mickey-moused' constructed curbs, sidewalks, parking space tire bumpers, are actual obstacle courses here, many even worse at night due to no proper lighting. Many sidewalks lead right into parking stalls with no walking space nor walkway between the vehicles. I have tripped on oddly placed curbs here, as have a number of my visitor friends, Many of the stair cases have no hand rails, broken off long ago and never yet replaced. People have fallen on these. There are but two or three sidewalk ramps if that many here, and none from the parking lots to the sidewalks. \r 4. There is no green landscaping anywhere where one may sit outside in a lawn-chair and enjoy, Their are chain link fences all over the place...isn't chain link fencing so attractive? All the view and outdoors you get here is the view of parking lots and vehicles parked within 12 feet or less in front of your windows and front door... There are a few barbeque areas, but all too small, only concrete, and somr regularly trashed by resident drunks (booze bottles thrown about everywhere, cigarette butts everywhere, fast food trash wrappers thrown all over.\r 5. It is a large complex, with only apartments and parking lots jammed up tight against each other, and only one maintainance worker, so don't hold your breath waiting for repairs to be fixed! \r A Plain Ugly, Cramped, and paper-thin walled Complex. Cons: People Cramming, Vehicle Cramming, Paper walls & Ceilings
