Review content:
As a group of six on a Saturday night, we were pleased to be able to obtain a 9:15 reservation last minute for what appeared to be a charming restaurant in Edgartown. However, from start to finish the entire experience at L?Etoile was incredibly disturbing. We were cognizant to arrive on time as we were told, upon making the reservation, that our credit card would be charged $50 per person if we cancelled, but still only slightly annoyed to find that our table was not ready but would take ?another 5-10 minutes?. One hour later we were still waiting, and after inquiring about the situation given the half-hearted option to eat at two separate tables. As this was not what we had in mind when we decided to dine out for the evening, we declined. The hostess was less than gracious and actually incredibly rude; instead of politely apologizing for making us wait she was combative and almost annoyed that she had to deal with us at all. By the time we were seated our stomachs were empty and our heads fuzzy (apparently the only time you can expect any kind of reasonable service is when ordering alcohol). The food was met with mixed reviews: the lobster was amazing but the tenderloin was almost inedible (completely charred on the top, which is apparently the signature method of preparation). The final straw came at the end of the night (probably about 11:30 at that point) when the waitress pulled several of the women aside to complain about her tip, all because she didn?t make the effort to look for the additional cash we had left behind. Bottom line: the service is horrendous, pretentious and offensive; the food is a gamble and the prices in no way justify the experience. Look for another restaurant in Edgartown, because if you choose this one there is a very good chance it will ruin your night and sully your memory of what is otherwise a very charming town.
