Review content:
My experiences here are that the pizza is consistently 8 out 10, i.e. not quite Chicago Loop, but definitely better than most places in Birmingham, provided you are willing to pay top dollar, i.e. $19 for a medium pizza and $25 for a large.\r
\r
The seeting area is informal but large, with a good array of TV's on various sports stations. There's superb outdoor seating. So if you have lots of time to hang out, it is actually a great place to sit.\r
\r
Evaluating the service is tricky. The young people who work at Dave's as waitstaff are genuinely sweet, nice and helpful. Their kind demeanors are undermined by the godawful slowness of the place, and the difficulty getting the attention of these nice servers, who are (obviously) totally overworked, running their tails off and not quite able to keep up. They also have trouble keeping track of ""special orders"" (i.e. make this pizza only half cheese, or whatever). I have to guess the system is just overloaded by low staff.\r
\r
When I have had the chance to raise this to someone at manager level the response has been on the order of (paraphrasing, not actual words) 'so what. That's the way we do things here.' i.e. No effort made to correct, mollify or even fake looking sincerely concerned. \r
\r
So my suggestions are that if you are sure you don't need to eat quickly and you do want good pizza that's pricey, this is a fine place to hang out and watch the ball game. The servers are really nice. Just realize that the basic arrangement is high prices + low staff numbers, and the managerial folks would rather lose some customers than improve the service model.
Pros: quality pizza
Cons: very high prices, no service committment
