BEWARE! I agree with the other reviews that Urban Active is ""deceptive,"" 'shady,"" ""under-handed"" and they find strict excuses to not let you out of their contract. And I've seen another posting that they have pushy/high pressured sales which I'd also agree with.\r
\r
I signed a membership on month to month & explained that I didn't want a contract as I didn't know how long I'd be in Columbus. I then met with the training department - I again explained I didn't want a contract. Training said if I submitted a piece of MAIL with an out of area mailing address I could cancel the contract. Based upon this, I agreed to sign a contract.\r
\r
Well, about seven months later I told the same person I'd signed my training contract with that I was leaving for the winter and needed to cancel the contract. I provided a piece of mail with an out of state address. He processed my cancellation and assured me there wouldn't be any problem.\r
\r
This wasn't the case. About two months later I'm contacted by UA's billing company - that I didn't show proof of relocation. I disputed. I contacted UA and again provided a different mailing with the same out of state address.\r
\r
UA changed the reason my cancel wasn't accepted to me allegedly being in the negative balance on my training sessions. I again disputed this. \r
\r
Then UA changed it again - back to I didn't show proof of relocation but at this time they set further restrictions on what documents are acceptable in order to cancel due to relocation to include a lease, utility bill or letter from my employer. This isn't what was communicated to me before I signed my contract and I've shared this with UA and that I signed the contract based upon being able to submit mail with an out of area address. I wouldn't have signed a contract based upon these cancelaton terms as I'm aware I likely wouldn't have been able to provide these restrictive items.\r
\r
I don't even have any of these for Columbus as I don't have a lease or utility bill there either. I travel for work and I often relocate temporarily on my own too.\r
\r
Meanwhile UA has continued to bill me over $100 a month for my training - I don't even have a membership there to use training sessions. And their training prices are HIGH.\r
\r
Also, I read another review that there's a way to early cancel a contract if you pay a fee - no surprise that UA hasn't offered me this option either. \r
\r
I won't give them access to my bank account again.
Pros: The gym was nice but going downhill, less classes offered
Cons: Deceptive practices to get people to sign contracts
