Thanks for moving into my neighborhood! (9th/Irving)...
The food is exquisite, subtle and made with care. Quality (and 'Zen') comes to mind (e.g. there is no oil in my dish!). We asked for recommendations and liked all of the suggestions:
(1) Cha-ya delight -- a seasoned brown rice bowl with many interesting vegetables on it... a simple dish that is very well done. This is my favorite.
(2) Garden roll & vegan roll
(3) Tofu custard -- goes well with the rice bowl.
Our waitress also recommended these dishes which I'll try next time: Soba salad, Cha-ya nabe, Goma-ae (blanched spinach and broccolini with sesame dressing), Tonchi Nasu (stuffed eggplant tempura with a ginger glaze), Hangetsu (layered portabella mushroom and atsuage tofu with kiwi sauce), and Dengaku.
Service is very friendly (we got there 20 mins before closing and were welcomed and not rushed).
Love this place! A convenient place to take my friends and relatives out to dinner.
Pros: delicious, healthy food in a convenient location
Cons: closed a few hours in the afternoon
