I was so sad when Yama San in Canyon Park closed its doors. We've been looking for something nearby ever since.\r

We visited Sushi Zen this weekend. It is in the same parking lot as Safeway in Mill Creek, at the end of a strip-mall row. The interior is clean and modern, basically black but splashed with very colorful walls to keep it upbeat. My husband noted that all the employees appeared to be young and good-looking. They were dressed in slim, all-black outfits to match the décor. Service was attentive and reasonably quick (for a packed sushi restaurant) without hovering. \r

At about 7:30 pm on Friday, the restaurant was busy but our party of two was seated immediately. We saw larger parties waiting in an all-too-small waiting area during our meal. This was probably because there were several tables set aside for a very large party with reservations.\r

The picture-filled menu contains some interesting rolls that I haven't seen before. I think a lot of them were cooked up to satisfy the American palate. After ordering, we were served a small cucumber salad and warm, lightly-salted edamame. Our beer came next, but was almost gone by the time our sushi arrived. More because my husband was thirsty than the speed of the order. One new roll we tried was called the ""stuffed pumpkin."" It was rice wrapped with salmon and topped with a warm, crab/scallop/spicy mayo concoction. It was so big (about the size of a baseball) it took several bites to finish - but it was really good. We'll definitely go back for more.\r

Our order: stuffed pumpkin, Mill Creek roll, salmon lemon roll, eel roll and a large Sapporo. Also served: cucumber salad and edamame. Total: about $30. I was full for hours.
