In Febuary 2008 I purchased a 2007 M/C ALL TERRAIN Honda Foreman TRX500FPE. The reason for purchasing this model was because of ""power steering."" I am a 50 year old man that has always enjoyed riding atv's, as I have aged it has been more difficult for me to manage control of an atv. I no longer have the strength in my arms to operate an atv that did not have power steering. When Honda came out with this model I knew that I would be able to enjoy what I once did. Since Febuary of 2008 my ATV has been at my local shop for repairs four times for the same problem "" Power Steering,"" I haven't been able to enjoy my summer in the way that I had planned.\r
Each time that I've rode my atv my power steering has turned off, according to the repair man this model works this way inorder to prevent damage to the system. I have been told that the reason for this happening so often is in the way that I drive my atv. They told me that when I am operating my atv depending upon the terrain I need to base my opinion on how fast I need to go so that my power steering wont shut off on me.In my opinion, for this to be an ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE I shouldn't have to worry if the power steering is going to shut off on me. I will tell you that when the steering does shut off it is like steering a car with 2 flat tires on the front. The manager told me that the atv is working the way it was designed. With carefurl consideration I based my decision on purchasing this model because of the feature ""power steering"" which enabled me to operate my atv safely. Having owened my atv for 8 months I have now realized that I can't operate my atv in a way to prevent my power steering system from overheating and shutting off, without this ability their has been many occasions when I have almost lost control of my atv. Not knowing when or were this can occur I have lost all interest in riding my atv. Now, I have an atv that I can no longer enjoy for the fear of wrecking and injuring myself or others.
Pros: Easy Steering
Cons: Drive to slow, no matter the terrain, that power steering will shut off making it almost impossible to steer
