I took my 8 year old son there last night with stomach virus symptoms to rule out the possibility of strep or flu. The wait was not too bad. When we were taken back to an exam room, the nurse was very friendly and helpful and got the strep and flu tests running right away. He then saw a Nurse Practitioner there, Chanel, who was very friendly and through. She recognized the easily missed symptoms of appendicitis and sent us to the ER. I hadn't even considered this possibility & was surprised, but she was right! After getting checked out at the Wake Med ER in Cary, he was taken in for an emergency appendectomy! I was so happy that Chanel recognized the signs as the ER told me child appendicitis is the most frequently misdiagnosed because the symptoms are so vague and appear to be stomach virus. While no mother wants to see her child have to have surgery, the outcome would have been much worse if Chanel hadn't recognized his symptoms and sent us to the ER right away. Thank you Chanel and FastMed of Cary!
