Review content:
I don't cook anymore ... we just go to Nela's to enjoy the food and the 'family'.\r
\r
Nela's isn't a fancy place ... it's decorated very simply, but it's kept squeaky clean. Even the all-important rest rooms are squeaky clean. This is a place where locals gather and newcomers always get a warm welcome. \r
\r
Owners Tom and Georgette are usually there - and although they have cooks and waitresses, they enjoy getting their hands into the day-to-day operations. Tom's usually cooking up some new specialty and asking what we think. Georgette can't sit still - she's either waiting on tables, serving coffee, or helping the busboy clean up. Once you're there, you're part of their family ... if you don't mind the company, it's not uncommon for them to sit down and chat with you for awhile once they get to know you.\r
\r
Oh, and the waitresses are also 'family'. Literally mother-daughter teams. They also enjoy sharing conversation and jokes - and they miss you - if you miss one of your normal visits!\r
\r
OK, OK - now about the FOOD - Everything is prepared fresh - Tom does not like poor quality and won't serve it! If you'd like something that's not on the menu, he'll fix it if he has the ingredients on hand.\r
\r
Our favorites are the Sirloin steak with salad/soup bar for under $9. For Fish lovers, try the Hoki - either potato crusted and fried or broiled - under $9. (Tom makes sure mine is broiled well so it's firm in the middle. Most places won't do that for me so I can't usually order fish). The Chicken Scallopini is also something I get on a regular basis - again, under $9.\r
\r
The salad bar is fresh and the soups are all homemade. My favorites are the Chicken Paprikash soup and the Lentil. Nela's also has smaller portions available for lunch - for $5. You can't beat their Shrimp Basket for lunch.\r
\r
We also enjoy their breakfasts - fresh Potato Pancakes, Chocolate Chip or Bluebery pancakes, or just plain eggs, toast and sausage. Always fresh and served with pride.\r
