Review content:
The Lobster Shack is open seasonally Late March to Late October, with varied hours depending upon exactly when in their open months. Located on the water, with two fantastic views of lighthouses, and a short walk from a view of Portland Head Light.
Outside and indoor seating, orders are called off by number and you serve and clean tables yourself. It is BYOB - which means you can grab your favorite local brews and bring them along for your lobster feast.
I had the Lobster Roll, clam cake, and clam chowder. Everything that is fried is cooked in canola oil with no trans fat, that being said the clam cake was definitely all fry and no clam. Overcooked and too crispy, the only saving grace was dousing it in the tarter sauce. The clam chowder however, was light and delicious. A light broth base, without out the heavy cream thick consistency of many other chowders, and chock full of potatoes and clams.
Finally the Lobster Roll, a toasted roll piled high with pieces of lobster and a huge dollop of mayonnaise. Market Price was $12 and that made it on par for other places in the area. Worth the drive, a mere 20 mins outside of downtown Portland.
Pros: view of the ocean, decor inside, quality of food
Cons: make sure you get here early or you will wait!, pricey
