I've been visiting all the Historic House Trust listings lately...lived here for awhile but have never been.\r \r VC House is tucked on the lower left corner of Van Cortlandt Park (great park!!!)...it's a quiet, reflective corner, has a small herb garden, and a wide, shady lawn next to it, and even a resident cat on the grounds!\r \r The staff is very friendly, but unfortunately, they can't illuminate on the house, architecture, furniture or uses past what's listed on the 4-pg self-tour handout, so you're best to go with someone who has some background in old houses and American social history to fill in the blanks, if you're a curious person.\r \r You can wander the house & grounds at your own pace, peer into rooms, etc. Nice not being rushed, but it would be nice to have someone knowing to ask questions of.\r \r Worth an hour of viewing, then bring a picnic and sit on the grounds, enjoy a clear afternoon imagining it's your own country house...just remember to take your trash with you. :-) Pros: Quiet, serene, view at own pace, friendly staff Cons: No add'l info besides 4 typed pages, staff not knowledgeable
