Review content:
I have to disclose, Right up Front, that I am very sorry to write this review...\r I have been going to the Golden Crown Restaurant in Beaverton for over 20 years. However, I have not been there since my last visit in 2006. If I was to have written this review then, as opposed to today, it would have read much differently...\r I was so looking forward to having my favorite (always order dish) Shrimp Egg Foo Yung, Pot Stickers, House Special Rice, which I considered to be from past experience, some of the very best I have had tasted in Portland, on many, many occasions.\r Very sadly, I will say compared to what I had been served in 2006, I have never had worse Asian food in my life. The (favorite) dish I was dying to taste again was the Shrimp Egg Foo Yung. It appeared on the plate as something that resembled a pile of gooue, as opposed to the nice firm, thick pancakes, with a luscious brown gravy, which I had been served (every-time) before. The egg mixture was not even cooked, but runny, the shrimp were U-40 in size, but sparse and were absolutely flavorless.\r Next, were the Pot-stickers, Absolutely nothing like what I remember. These things looked like small baked potato's, and were just as firm as an un-cooked potato. You had to apply firm pressure with a fork (and) knife to cut into them, and once you did, what was inside was some meat-like mass that had once again, (no) noticeable flavor. It was like eating a mass of cardboard. Oh, and they were served with sealed packets of soy-sauce and distilled white kitchen vinegar, not the good ginger essence'd Pot-sticker dipping sauce that I so vividly remember.\r Now, onto the rice. This was really the show stopper here. Their House Special Rice (which is how I used to order it) was nothing more than a rancid-oil tasting pile of cheap soy-sauce saturated rice with some bits of solid something that you might say was a meat like substance. Again the dish tasted like it had been made from un-refrigerated stale rice with a taste I was absolutely not familiar with.\r In summary, all this came to me so unexpected based on past (but pleasurable) experiences. The only possible justification for this dis-pleasurable experience has to be, there is no one running/owning/cooking/buying raw materials in that establishment today, that has had any affiliation on my multiple visits in the past. \r The one positive note was the friendly service from the wait staff. They were apologetic and did not try to convince my dissatisfaction in anyway, but were what seemed embarrassed. Nor did she quibble when I said I was not comfortable paying for this meal, as I did not!\r I have never written a negative review in my life, only positive ones, until today. And I cannot feel good about not letting someone know within the current ownership, that they have failed miserably in keeping with tradition that The Golden Crown of Beaverton (used) to stand for, which is very sad.\r Again, this is painfully written...\r
