I have been to all 50 states and have lived in 10, so I've been all over: but I tell you without reservation that Henderson's is my very favorite book store in the entire US. Even though I live on the east coast I make sure that I spend a good long time in Henderson's during my twice- or thrice-yearly visits to Bellingham. The selection is absolutely fantastic, with plenty of serious literature as well as more popular books, rare volumes, and every non-fiction topic you could think of. The books are well-organized, and the employees and owners are friendly and knowledgeable. I've bought gift certificates by phone and the staff members have sent them to me without a postage/handling charge. Unlike some used bookstores, Henderson's is bright and pleasant. I happily spend hours there each visit, and I only wish I didn't have to spend all day on an airplane to get there. Especially if you live anywhere in Washington State, make a beeline for Henderson's!
