As a long-time customer of Hair Village in Woodside where I've been going for the past 4 years without any problems, I looked for a new place b/c I didn't feel like having to dry my own hair and wait 6 hours. Well, the review below is absolutely right. At first, all was fine. The price also matched Hair Village. Up until she started the actual iron straightening, I was relaxed. While straightening, she was going so fast she was pulling hairs with the iron. It hurt but I didn't say anything b/c I trusted she knew what she was doing (at Hair Village, they are extremely careful and straighten each section individually, combing it out before straightening so there is no pulling) While doing this, she also gave me a steam burn to my scalp. It hurt when I felt the heat, but I didn't make a big deal of it because I didn't realize it was an actual burn (never happened at Hair Village). Steam burn and hair pulling aside, I was happy to leave less than 3 hours later with my hair straight and with a fresh cut. But, when I touched the part of my head that was burned on my way home, it was moist/blistering. I called her that night and she explained my hair wasn't fully dry, so steam must have shot into my scalp. She emailed me the same night to offer a free hair straightening treatment and to apologize. 3 days later, my scalp felt extremely tight and on the 4th day after washing, the ends were dry and even turned a light brown color while the roots were bending about 1/4 of an inch. My hair was overprocessed. Now, 4 weeks later, I still have to buy products to continue treating my brittle hair from the damage. Please know that all hair is not the same and not all experiences are the same. Even though they were easy to communicate with and offered a Keratin treatment, which I have refused, it doesn't change the damage this visit caused. I only say this because damaged hair is serious and takes a lot of time and money to manage. Pros: Haircut came out good and other stylists were busy so they must be good for that as well. Cons: damaged hair
