Review content:
5/1/09 - Last month was our first visit to Kanpai Sushi and although it was pretty slow (understandably so on a Tuesday evening) we waited over 30 minutes to get our sushi! The only server working was on the telephone for the first 15 minutes, hopefully taking a very complicated to-go order. There was only one sushi chef working and we overheard comments from people sitting at the bar complaining about the slow service.
Our first plate consisted of four orders of nigiri sushi: escolar (butterfish), hamachi (yellowtail), sake (salmon) and shiro maguro (albacore tuna). With the exception of the shiro maguro, everything else was super fresh and deliciously onolicious (this word is a Leilani-ism: ""ono"" means yummy in Hawaiian) so we ordered a second plate of escolar, hamachi and sake...and skipped the shiro maguro.
I would have easily given Kanpai Sushi 4 stars if the service wasn't so slooooooooow (maybe even 5 stars if the service was super) but the large, fresh portions of nigiri sushi are what will make me want to come back for more!
UPDATE - We've been back many times since our first visit and haven't experienced any service issues since then. Kanpai Sushi ROCKS!!!
Pros: Escolar Nigiri, Hamachi Nigiri, Sake Nigiri
