Review content:
I never write reviews for any type of business unless I feel that I am helping to save someone from getting ripped off. I'm writing this review though, to help anyone who is suffering from chronic pain that is destroying their lives. It's hard to find a good pain management physician when your suffering from severe pain that has not been relieved by surgery. The constant pain leaves you tired, weak, and vulnerable to anyone who promises a cure. Moreover, you are treated as though you in search of a fix, by many medical professionals who haven't been educated in chronic pain issues and treatments. I was in bed for over a year in constant mind shattering pain after my fifth back surgery. My surgeon would look at the x-rays and tell me he could see no reason for my suffering. You can't diagnose nerve and soft tissue damage from an x-ray. When I finally found Dr. Avila, I had been butchered by Dr. Carassco, who did a sloppy job of putting a morphine pump in my abdomen, and then refused to put enough medication in it to relieve even fifty percent of the pain I was suffering. I honestly believe that God lead me to Dr. Avila. I'm not a religious freak, he was honestly the answer to my prayers for help. He is understanding, and caring. Best of all, he's probably one of the best pain management doctors in the United States. I was a nurse before I was forced into retirement by an on the job injury, so I know a little bit about doctors, and I'm telling you he is the best you will find within two hundred miles of San Antonio. If you are on controlled medications, you do have to go in every thirty days to get refills. He does have a lot of patients because of his skill, and I have waited as long as three hours on several visits. In the last year though, wait time has decreased to under two hours maximum. If you are seeking a solution to chronic pain that is destroying your life, pack a lunch, he's worth the wait. Pros: Sincere, understanding, and highly skilled in his feild. Cons: Long waits due to the amount of satisfied patients, clinic needs more seating, trouble getting paperwork in a timely manner.
