First, I must confess that I have eaten at many of the best restaurants around the USA. From EVERY restaurant in the Hamptons (Nick and Tonis, The Laundry, Bamboo, etc.), to Nobu, Jean Georges, Palm, etc., to many restaurants in LA , Florida and so on. Never before have I been so taken aback by such a scam. IF you think this place to be exceptional, then you are high, or have not experienced great food. The steaks are not bad, but, all they do is drown it in butter, that's it. Why then, is it the best steak in NY?. There are places that are significantly better for less money, with better service, and actually worth the $. It's amazing how people fall victim to the hype this place generates. They have to be paying these people for those reviews. This place is much worse then V, and they sucked (Although I love Jean George, V was not his high point). People say it's the 'old school charm' of 'incredibly bad service' and 'run down atmosphere' that makes it great. WHY? I can understand the old school charm, but it's not even nice? it looks like a cheap diner, lacks any character whatsoever (I do like Grit, cool run down hole in the wall restaurants can be phenomenal, but not this one)Our waiter was so bad that he kept apologizing at the end, I'm sure you know why. Makes you feel like you're in Disney World, out to experience old German cultural restauranteuring. (note excessive sarcasm in these statements). My salad sucked, cheap store bought dressing with cheap parmesan cheese. Sides were just filled with butter, hmmm sounds familiar. The only other restaurant that I can think of equivalent stature is MR., CHOW. That place, is also a big SCAM. They, like Peter Lugar, scoff you and curse you for looking at a menu. Then they send you out whatever they have left over and you eat it and pay 100$. You would service yourself better by wiping your a** with 100$ bills, or go to the Elbow Room, or tha Palm, Dylan Prime, Union Square cafe, Monkey bar, etc. Much better food. Pros: Steak was OK Cons: Everything
