As you should expect, the Kirchmayr chocolate style is German. And in this case that means you should expect very heavy flavorings, and a heavy-handed approach to customers, as well.\r

Flavors are strong. In particular, strong with alcohol. If there's any excuse for your candy to have a liqueur, you will taste a lot of it. This is particularly pronounced in the chocolate covered cherries - again, no surprises here. But wow, you could light that candy on fire. If you like the burn of alcohol in your chocolate, you'll love the cherries. The marzipan is a stand-out in a good way. Strongly flavored, but the almond and chocolate flavors blend well. Their plain chocolates are simply unmentionable.\r

Overall, the Kirchmayr candies are well made, and while they are usually fresh, there have been times when their offerings begin to show obvious signs of sitting around. During high volume times such as major candy holidays (Valentines, Easter, Christmas, etc.) the surprisingly limited Kirchmayr selection becomes even more limited. Expect to wait in line for a pre-packaged assorted box. No choices at all. This is not exactly what you'd expect from a local handmade chocolate shop.\r

Overall, their product is good but it's just not impressive. There are at least two other, far better, handmade chocolate stores within a mile of Kirchmayr. Their level of service is also mediocre. Be sure to bring cash with you, they will not accept credit cards. And please do not try to talk to the counter staff - they always seem to be furious about something that just happened in the back, and somehow your purchase is making things worse. No soup for you!!
Pros: Marzipan. Chocolate covered cherries for the alcohol burn.
Cons: Excessive use of liqueur in everything. Limited selection. Cash only. Sour counter staff.
