I adopted three kittens from a local shelter. They developed horrible URIs. I saw three vets before I saw Dr. Shaffer. Long story, but one of the vets I hold responsible for the death of one of the cats, one seemed not to like to touch cats, and the last spent all of a minute and a half with my very sick cat, actually leaving the room while I was still speaking to him.\r \r Dr. Shaffer's office was pleasantly different. There was absolutely no wait and the entire staff was very soothing to my very sick kittens, keeping up constant reassuring and gentle touches the entire time the kitties were on the table. He wandered in with a mug of coffee and a blunt yet caring manner, and I knew immediately the kittens were in good hands. He was honest with me about the severity of the illness, but offered good instructions about home care and the kittens made it through just fine.\r \r The staff are all friendly. The whole office has a pleasant informality that puts you at ease during a stressful time. This is the way vet's offices used to be -- compassionate, no-nonsense care at reasonable prices. So, don't be put off by the low-tech atmosphere. After sampling other vets that came highly recommended but were a huge disappointment, I found my go-to place in West Seattle. Pros: Inexpensive, easy parking, knowledgeable, good table-side manner
