After having a wonderful experience at Edo Sushi in the Inner Harbor, I decided to try this more easily accessible Edo location in Owings Mills. Everything was fine at first, we were seating promptly and the service was friendly and attentive. The sushi bar was full and the whole restaurant was reasonably busy. My date's order arrived first, seafood and vegetable tempura. The tempura was delicious and hot, and I couldn't help but share some while I waited. However, when my order of sushi arrived, I was quite unpleased with the appearance of the fish. The shrimp and octopus looked and tasted good, however most of the pieces of fish looked ill sliced, the tuna was falling apart on one side and I couldn't immediately recognize the mackerel because most of the shiny skin was missing and the rest appeared quite brown (I later expressed my displeasure at this piece, but was not offered a replacement). Nothing smelled funny or tasted bad, but it didn't taste great either. The sushi rice was particularly plain. I can't imagine this place gets the business it does if all of the sushi was like mine, especially considering the high prices. Maybe I was just unlucky, but next time I've got money to spend I'll make the extra effort and go to the Edo Sushi in Baltimore.
