Review content:
I found Zenkichi on Citysearch after a fairly exhaustive search, decided that would be the place for putting my best Valentine's Day foot forward, and hoped it would prove the ideal romantic spot to take my special lady.\r The entire experience was simply superb. The ambience, the decor, the service, the food, the drink.\r We had the Valentine's Day Omakase. I'm not exactly a newbie to Japanese cuisine, but the entire sequence of dishes was beyond great. The miso soup (with carrots cut into heart shapes...awww) we agreed was the best we'd had; tuna sashimi with the first selection melted in our mouths; the scallops w/mushrooms was a unique but welcome newcomer to our palates; the tempura sea urchin was reminiscent of every delicious piece of fried anything I've ever had; the king crab knocked her socks off; and for dessert the whipped cheesecake & chocolate torte & (somehow, summer fresh) strawberries w/whipped cream were some of the items that stood out to us as we rehashed the experience over the rest of the weekend.\r We had bottle of the ""Demon Slayer"" sake with our meal; it was the best sake I've ever tasted, even at that little underground place on 40-somethingth St. in Manhattan. It was recommended by one of the very gracious servers, and it was a great one. We relished every drop of the bottle.\r I'm gushing, but I'm seriously, my date was beside herself by the time we left. She'd come from out of town, back where the seafood is not nearly as fresh as the pork chops and corn on the cob, so I really wanted to show her something special, and Zenkichi helped me knock it out of the park. It was definitely the most I've ever dropped on dinner for two, but it was an experience that she and I will never forget, and thus worth every penny... Pros: Everything? Cons: Wish I could afford to take her here every weekend.
