It's hard to rate this because as much I like shopping at Safeway. I have recently stopped unless I absolutely need something and there right down the road.\r I quit a good paying but dead end job and accepted a lower paying a few hours less with Safeway. My reasoning behind this being safeway offers several career opportunities and wonderful benefits and I wanted to be able to grown in the company. I was hired as a checker and it quickly became quite clear I was very unwanted there, There was some sort of dispute going on between the employees and management. I ignored the rude behavior & comments of the other employees that gave me constant grief and did my job. Within 1 week I was demoted to cart collector, bathroom cleaner and bag girl. Everyone has to pay there dues but keeping in mind I was hired to check and they made me permanent courtsey clerk. I didn't make a fuss since I was still in my 90 day probabtion and didn't want to make a bad impression. Instead I busted my butt doing the best I could and some. Less than a month of being hired the Store Manager Jonny put me on the spot on the floor in front of employees & customers and said ""They should have never hired you people I do not have any hours for you. Your options are I lay you off or fire you. Your descion"". He said all this without ever taking his eyes off his new company assigned blackberry. Then walked away. I called everyday for more than a week and the assistant manager had no clue and the Ashley the front end manager was just as clueless. \r Bottom line I have yet to recieve call back from Jonny as of today and this occured more than a month ago. I filed unemployement and then a complaint with the company, again no response from the company or the DM. \r This could have been avoided if they didn't over hire. I am now jobless and on unemployment. Just another person to add to the growing unemployment rate in this awful economy. \r THANK YOU Safeway.
