You know how lots of reviews start out with ""not your typical...""? Well, Plaza Azteca actually IS your typical Mexican Restaurant. They're the only Mexican place like this in town and they pull it off very well.
The guacamole made to order at your table is awesome. We got extra jalapeno, and it was awesome. Spicy, but not so much that the avocado lost its cooling effect - the perfect balance. The shrimp appetizer, Cameneros something or other, was tremendous. My only complaint was that the sauce that came on my burrito (the San Jose) was very similar to the sauce that came with the shrimp. The burrito was great (it had chicken & sausage & it was huge), but I felt like I had enough spicy queso sauce for the night when I was only like half way through. If I knew that, I'd have changed up my order, but I definitely plan to get both of those dishes again.
I have also been here a few times just for drinks and apps. They have HUGE huge beer mugs.
