Review content:
Our family has had an exceptional experience at St. Joseph School, Mendham. Both of our children have been educated there from Kindergarten, and have each received a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum in an enriching, Catholic environment. Both kids consistently score in the top 1% - 5% on standardized tests, and have been invited to participate in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth each year they've been eligible, along with nearly 60 of their school-mates ... an impressive number for a relatively small school. St Joe's students regularly WAY out-perform their peers in both suburban schools and catholic schools on standardized tests, another testament to the quality and rigor of the academic program. In 2010, Math and Language Arts median percentile scores led peer schools by on average 10 - 15%. Science scores in Grades 3 through 6 were at or above 90%. Teachers stress the fundamentals of solid learning, and it shows. Discipline is present but not over-reaching. It's refreshing to enter a school and see the students hard at work, smiling, and learning respect for their teachers and their peers. Right and wrong are concepts which are not taboo: they are principles not only taught, but modeled by the teachers and staff. It is really as much a place for good learning as it is for good character development. Our eldest child has found his transition to Delbarton to be seamless. He was well-prepared for the rigors of a competitive college preparatory high school, thanks to the education and study habits he got at St. Joseph School. Our younger child still attends St. Joe's and takes advantage of many of the numerous extracurricular activities offered, including a fabulous competitive basketball program, Robotics, Solar Sprints and regular opportunities to do concrete, community outreach to those less fortunate. The school stresses ""living your faith,"" another reason it is such a unique and nurturing place for children to develop strong character. There are also numerous opportunities to join Gifted and Talented Programs, such as Jr. Model UN, World of Free Enterprise, Forensics, National Junior Honor Society, and math, spelling and geography bees. St. Joseph students consistently are awarded top prizes in these activities each year. We feel truly lucky to have found such a fine Catholic School for our children, and recommend St. Joseph School without reservation.
