Review content:
I work with adults who have special needs. On Thursday March 22 2007, two staff and I took six people served out to lunch at Joy luck Chinese restaurant located at 9764 Quivira Rd in Lenexa Kansas. Apparently people who have mental retardation and possibly other disabilities are unwelcome at JOYLUCK. We arrived at eleven am just as they were opening. We told the man who I assume is either the owner or manager that we were a party of nine. He looked us over and up and down and replied that they get very busy for lunch and said that he did not know if he could handle us. I am unclear what he meant by handle we had arrived with little trouble and as it turned out his behavior was much worse than the people I serve displayed that day. He then asked if we could take our food to go. We replied no and he then turned his back to us and answered the phone. We listened as he made arrangements for eighteen people the following day. We waited for about five minutes as he stayed on the phone with his back to us the entire time. We were greeted by other staff and he would not allow them to seat us however, the people that came in after us were easily seated. The old stand by of first come fist serve meant nothing to this man. It was obvious they had the room to accommodate us as that there were several tables that seated at least ten people not to mention the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty. It was clear that the staff and I and probably the people we serve were not welcome. There did not seem to be a viable reason for them not to serve us. If they can handle eighteen people the following day they could certainly have handled the nine of us. My husband and I have eaten there before and the large tables are standard. We have in turn been there for lunch on a weekdays and they were not really all that busy.
Pros: I have eaten there before the food is ok at best
Cons: they do not likepeople with mr/dd and will not serve
