Review content:
I contracted Bob Shafer of R&F Construction to do roofing, new fascia boards and vinyl siding on my home in July 2010. They did a mediocre job on the roof. The new decking they installed is not flush on the edges so the drip edge looks horrible. I was charged for 30 feet of ridge vent but only received approximately 20 feet. \r
When they began the siding is when things truely started going south! Bob wanted $3000 for materials to start the job which I paid in cash. Bob told me this would be a 4 or 5 day job...it took almost 3 weeks! Bob and his wife showed up Monday July 5th to start prepping the house for siding. Much of the original wood siding was loose and needed to be screwed tight after the original nails began to back out. Tuesday the materials arrived and they began nailing on the folded insulation. Bob's price was $800 more than the next quote I received but he dropped his original quote $400 to ""meet me in the middle"". While his wife did most of the work cutting and installing the insulation, Bob told me if I wanted the seams taped, I would have to go buy tape which was not included in the quote. Bob told me his employee had gotten arrested and so he and his wife would have to do the job. When it came time to start wrapping the windows with aluminum, Bob asked for another $400 to rent a sheet metal break because his was ""in the shop"" and child support services had taken all the money from his account.\r
Bob and his wife showed up each day between noon and 2:00 and would work until 6:00 or 6:30 each day. I had to go out of town the next weekend and was assured the job would be finished by my return on Sunday night. I went ahead and paid the balance of the bill, in cash. (my mistake). When I got home there was a note on my coffee table apologizing for the job not getting finished because Bob had fallen off the ladder 1 day and badly cut his hand the next day. The job was finally ""finished"" on the 23rd of July. The caulking around the windows looks like a first grader did it. \r
1 week later the vinyl began falling down over the front windows and gaps began to form at several lap joints where the vinyl was cut too short. I called Bob Saturday 8/7/10 and he came right out and ""fixed"" the problems. I was not home. 1 week later the same places were falling down over the windows and the gaps had reappeared in the lap joints. I called again and within a couple days, Bob and his wife showed up to ""fix"" the problem again. This time I was home. Bob put some small nails in the vinyl that was falling down and took the pieces where the gaps were loose and moved them over enough to cover the gaps and nailed them. \r
The vinyl has not fallen over the windows anymore as of yet...I'm sure it's just a matter of time though, but the gaps at the lap joints have reappeared again so I made 1 last call 08/20/2010 and left a voice mail stating my patience has worn thin and if Bob was not going to fix the problem properly by replacing the pieces he cut too short then I would make my experience public over the internet and file a complaint with the Youngstown BBB, which I have done today 08/23/2010. \r
