Nighttime staffing levels may be adequate, but after 6:30pm, no one seems to be around. I've stood around the nurse's station for 10-20-30 minutes without seeing a soul. Meanwhile, call lights were on above many of the doors. Mom was a fall risk, and although a safety plan was in place, the Resident Care Manager didn't ensure that it was carried out. Additionally, because she was a fall risk, West Hills hooked bed and tab alarms to her and the bed. That worked fine during the daytime, but at nighttime, when supervisors weren't around, staffers tended to disappear. A lot of good a tab alarm does when no one is around. Mom fell out of bed one night and broke her hip. She didn't get medical care for over two hours. I was told at 1:15am that an ambulance had been called, but ambulance company records indicated that they didn't dispatch until 1:41am. Who screwed up? I bet it wasn't the ambulance company. There was also physical abuse, cleanliness problems, and numerous other safety-related problems, but I'm running out of words. West Hills has a new Administrator. Hopefully, things have changed. Pros: Nice lobby -- a few good people Cons: Disappearing staff, and some people didn't care
