In my case, I accidentally saved over a report I was writing. It was pretty long, about 30 pages or so, and it took months to write. I wished I had a backup somewhere, but no, that was the only copy I had, and I saved over it because of the stupid Vista dialog... you know, I typed in a new name, but I must have clicked on my report in the dialog or something, because next time I open my report, it ain't there!!
My brother said I should go to a data recovery company - he said the report might still be floating around somewhere, it's not completely gone. Well, I didn't need telling twice - I googled for some data recovery companies near Los Angeles right away, and found California Data Recovery Services. I brought my laptop in and they did their magic, and BAM - there it was! They found portions of my report scattered on the drive, and they pulled them back together somehow. What a relief! They even found the images too! I did have to retype some pages from memory, those looked like they were gone.
Amazing work, California Data Recovery Services! You saved me so much work!
I guess it goes to show that data's never really gone, it's still there somewhere (or at least a part of it is), and a data recovery company can find it if you need it. Thanks again.
