Review content:
I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S. in Finance in 2008 and was unable to secure an entry-level job in Finance despite shining credentials, a year and a half of looking, and applying to hundreds of jobs posted online. I even reworked my résumé several times on my own before hiring a professional résumé writer for $460! Still, I only received two calls and wasn’t successful in securing either position. Then in December 2010, my employer announced that they were closing our district office and would be providing outplacement services. They authorized six, one-hour sessions to see Judy Kaplan Baron, Ph. D., a certified career counselor.
Judy helped me rework my résumé and gave me pointers on writing an effective cover letter. When she was satisfied with our improvements, she told me to start applying for jobs. In less than a week, I received three calls for interviews. This was more action than I received on my previous résumé written by a so-called résumé expert and in less time. I went on the interviews and felt I did terrible. At my next session, Judy gave me a practical solution for answering tough interview questions as well as answering hypothetical questions. She also wrote an effective introduction and conclusion that I could use for my interviews and told me to go on as many interviews as I could for practice.
The following week I gained a phone interview with a Fortune 500 company. Using Judy’s interviewing method, I did very well and was invited to a half day of on-site interviews. I was extremely nervous, but used Judy’s interviewing approach to prepare the night before. I researched the company thoroughly, came up with answers to the fifteen most common interview questions, wrote down questions to ask, and reviewed my finance text book. Judy’s advice and my hard work paid off. I finally got my first financial analyst job, making more money than I anticipated at a great company and beating out hundreds of applicants all vying for a highly competitive position.
Judy was absolutely instrumental in making it happen. With Judy’s help, you will not just get a job, but the job you really want. She guided me throughout the whole process by helping me believe in my skills and really sell myself. Her encouraging words kept me focused and determined. I never dreamed I would go from failed job hunts and facing layoff to finally landing a great position in the field I love all within three months. Her services are an investment that has brought great returns for me (my salary will increase by 40% to potentially 61% if my bonus is included). I will turn to Judy for her services at every critical juncture in my career as I continue to climb the corporate ladder.
