I just moved here from DC and though I could take the craigs list route and avoid a broker. After being baited and switched by what I thought were owner listings (wrong!) I went to a citi habitats office. The agent who helped me very professional, listened to what and gave good advice. We looked for 2 weeks before I found a great 1 bdrm in Gramercy. It was a bit hard becasue I have a dog and there aren't a lot of pet friendly bldgs where I was looking. Anyway, we signed leases and I couldn't be happier. The agent followed up with me and even sent me a welcome gift! I have already referred two people to her. I did pay full broker fee but I believe that you pay for what you get- I got an apt that I LOVE and it's def worth it to me.
Pros: Friendly, Market knowledge, GREAT experience
Cons: Not enough, pet friendly, bldgs!
