Review content:
We go to this place often. The first time I ordered the dal maharani it was fabulous, with a complex flavor and plenty of spice. Today it seemed spicy enough, but the overall flavor seemed flat. I had a strong urge to ask for salt, soy sauce, anything to help out. My companion's navaratana currry was pretty good, if spiced a bit lightly for me. I liked the sagg gosht and shrimp curry at various times, and most of the time it's spicy enough. But, once when I told the server ""medium spicy,"" I tasted no spice at all and was very disappointed. I'm not Indian, but I grew up in So. Cal, so spice is not as much a novelty for me as for the typical clientele Cafe Tandoor seems to think it has. I am tempted to draw out a spice scale and bring it in every time I go.
