Review content:
I had the good fortune to visit Edisto's Old Post Office Restaurant during a visit to Edisto Beach. There are only a few true fine dining experiences on Edisto, and the Old Post Office is up there with the very best.
Our party enjoyed a combination of items on the regular menu as well as on the daily specials board. We absolutely loved the smoked salmon and fried oysters. For the main course, I ordered the Firecracker flounder off the menu. It was an incredibly large portion of perfectly fried fresh flounder. It had a unique, savory taste, with a little more than a hint of spicy-hot goodness.
Another in my party enjoyed a rib-eye steak on the specials menu. It was a very healthy-sized portion cooked to perfection and topped with an incredible mix of mushroom, onions and other goodies that made it a real delight.
We especially enjoyed the grits. Grits tend to be grits, but the Old Post Office has a recipe that makes theirs really stand out.
The wine list was very extensive, and the prices were very reasonable.
The atmosphere and ambiance of The Old Post Office is comfortable and romantic. The staff was very attentive to our party.
