Review content:
I recently moved to the neighborhood and have been really happy with all of the excellent restaurant options on the ""strip"" of Courtelyou. I didn't expect Castello Plan to be my fave - but I am so happy that it is!
Its a nice, tiny, warm, intimate place with interesting (nautical?) details in the design. The menu is short but filled with absolute delicious-ness. My bf and I ordered the following and loved each item:
+ House pickles (delicious and unique, served in a great little jar)
+ Smoked Sprats & Quail Egg Crostini (delicious, salty sprats with cool cucumber and the sweetest little quail egg.
+ Chicken Meatballs - amazingly subtle taste and unbelievably fluffy and delicate sweet potatoes. The meatballs were wonderfully fragrant with fennel. This meal was hearty and simple but also elegant.
+ Goat sausage (flavorful but not gamy) with creamy braised cabbage.
The portions are ample, the prices are very reasonable. The beers were delicious and the staff attentive. Add onto that that the KITCHEN is actually a few little burners tucked into the back of bar and you've got yourself a miracle! The fact that the chef concocted these fabulous meals in such a tiny space is truly unbelievable.
