I had Frank replace a deck - There was no ""construction company"" just him. A total nightmare from day one. From the first quote to the third time I saw him to sign the contract and give him a 50% deposit, the price went up almost 30%. First it was materials that went up, then on the night to sign the contract, he added another 750, said the quote did not include removal of the old deck. The quote was to replace the deck??? He was very vague about when he would start and when he would finish - next week - i had to keep chasing him - to start -he tore down the old deck and left it piled up in my back yard for 6 days - i have a dog so i had to pick up all the dangerous wood pieces with rusty nails sticking out of them, he didn't even put a tarp over it. I had to call him again to have it carted out.I had to climb in and out of the back door for about 12 days. Lazy? You tell me. He actually had to step over cement cylindars to build on top of them.He left thm under the deck, until I pulled them out and he took care of them. He put some boards up with the blue ink stamps showing, i asked him to remove the ink -who is supposed to do that? he said that's nothing, i'll just sand it - he did one side, left the other - i am still trying to sand out the ink on the boards before I stain the deck (that wasn't included). I had to fill in the holes around the cement blocks where he put the posts - it would have been easier to do that before the deck was built over it, but since he never put the lattice to cover those posts that we spoke of, at least I could get at them. He placed the siding trim back under the sliding glass door, but did not calk it in or secure it in any way. He called to get paid and I paid him just to get him out of my life. I wouldn't let him replace a toilet seat. I wouldn't give him an EH, which is what the one star means, but that is the lowest you can choose, cannot choose 0. Honestly, move first.
