No one does want to be in a nursing home, or to put your parent there. We all want everyone to die at home, with lots of warm care - but it does not work out like this. There is a time in life when their physical and mental needs are more than a family can handle. As a Charlotte native, I was pretty familiar with the resources here in Charlotte. When my mom fell and needed three weeks post-hospital care, I choose this place because of the tightness and teamwork of the staff. It is not the newest and fanciest building in town, but there is a whole lot of love going on under that roof and it is well managed and well staffed by people who care. After a brief stay there, my mom went on to stay in an assisted living. She got Pneumonia 4 months later, and I knew the end was coming for her. I did not hesitate to pick them again, knowing that these were the people I wanted to be around to help me and my mom through this difficult time and passage. She was well looked after, cleaned, fed, and cared for to the end. And when she did die, three months later, I was among friends, and she was too. I could not have done this alone, and found both the physical and mental support at Shamrock Nursing Home. to be the best for both of us. It is coming up on the second anniversary of my mom's death on Feb. 2007, and I know even more about aging and the dying process, and would make the very same choice to place her there today. They have very little staff turnover, which is also indicative of their management style. Choose Brian Center - Shamrock- if you want your parent treated like you would. Pros: Warm caring staff, good food, good occuspational and physical therapy services. Cons: older building, some limited parking but they never mind if you park on the grass
