Review content:
When calling around and researching for a good vet to perform my cat's spaying Dunckel seemed to the most popular as well as decent priced but I was very wrong.
When I went to pick up my cat the receptionist was rude, I asked the total and she said $195, which was not only different from the morning price but different the price I asked on the phone when they called to update me AND the initial price I got when calling to make the appointment!
Let me start from the beginning..
The price when I initially called was $75 to spay, saying that the cats distemper and rabbies were up to date. When asking how much those 2 tests were I was told $15 for rabbies and $25 for the distemper, though I didn't need them.
When taking in my cats vet records and speaking with someone before the surgery they told me that she was fit for surgery but her shots were not good enough and I would have to pay for those as well.. so at this point my total is $115.00. She then told me if the cat had ear mites (though I knew she did not) it would be extra. When I asked how much she said $25 but thats ONLY if she had them. I agreed to that amount.
(this brings it back to $140, saying she had ear mites)
When I got the call that things went well I asked if there was anything further wrong, they said no. I asked how much, so I could bring that amount and the woman said $178.00. When I asked why it changed, she replied with it may be an error but we can go over it when you get here. Since I didn't want to argue over the phone and figured discussing it in person was the wiser choice I said I would speak with them about the change in price once I got there.
I went to pick up my cat about 4 hours later the receptionist gave me a bill for $195. When I asked again if there was something wrong she said no. I in turn requested someone to explain how the price continued to jump higher she told me that my cat had ear mites. Since I got her treated for that earlier in the month (at their clinic) I then stated that even then the amount should be $140. The woman then told me that if wanted to get ""rude she would love to call up the manager."" (she didn't have any manager come up to speak with me)
As the vet brought the cat out she went over things with me. She advised me that she can't lick the area, it would cause infection. I then asked where the cone collar was, the vet said ""oh that's an extra $15."" I immediately got upset and asked why on earth I would have to pay for that she said ""well obviously there is a problem here."" As she is saying this the rude receptionist stands up from behind the counter and said ""she's been snotty since she got here, doesn't want to pay.""
I have NEVER been more irritated or disrespected in my life! Its not about the money, though it may seem that it is since its all I've mentioned in this post, it was about the jumps and why the amounts continued to change, on top of the fact that the receptionist was so rude. I then paid (the $195) and told them that I would never be returning and how inappropriate this all was. The vet then told me that was fine, they are a thriving business.
I am not sure which is more insulting, the fact that they assumed I couldn't pay for this or the fact that they were so arrogant in assuming that doing such price jumps and rude behavior is acceptable since they are so ""thriving.""
word of mouth is a powerful thing and I can honestly say that I will not be returning and anyone who asks me will NOT be referred to Dunckel Veterinary Hospital.
I am so disappointed with the experience as well as insulted. I hope that no one will ever EVER have such an experience with them again but I assume that it will repeat since it doesn't seem to be something they are concerned with. I just hope my cat has a speedy recovery and no one else has to be treated so badly.
