Horrible company that cares nothing for it's loyal employees
by Earthsister at Citysearch
My aunt worked for this store as a deli manager she was a loyal employee for over 20 years during her time she moved to over 10 different stores helping the company with training and opening of new stores. she never complained and was always available and reliable. during the course of working for shoppers her daughter was diagnosed with ataxia telectasia are rare fatal condition.
she requested the company move her to the Olney store so she could be close to her ailing daughter in an emergency she was granted the transfer and worked for 5 years in this position in spring of 2011 shoppers decided they no longer wanted to pay the higher rates of salary that the Longterm and committed workers had earned after years of dues so they offered a buyout to all the older employees the buyouts were low not even a full years salary shoppers made it understood they were making cuts and the higher paid people who were no longer needed those who didn't take the buyouts became targets of the company as did my aunt. She couldn't take the buyout because she needed her job and the money it provided to take care of her ailing child a few months later she became a target and her work began to be criticized and scrutinized even though she had been receiving letters of commendation from the company only months prior The new store manager made it clear she was on her way out on Easter weekend they gave her a one day notice that she was being transferred to a store on new Hampshire ave with traffic conditions that would ad at least an hour each way to her commute that's 2 hours a day 10 a week and 40 a month this was to far to be away from her dying child not to mention the extra care costs for the additional time the store refused to give reason for the transfer or even reconsider they had no compassion at all...All the stress of the ridicule and transfer and loss of income forced my aunt to have a nervous breakdown and now my cousin is stuck struggling to care for her mentally ailing mother and dying sister Please don't shop here this is not a family or community friendly store.......
