Review content:
I am a very experienced diner of Thai food, including dining in many states. I have also taken several authentic That cooking classes. My family and I dine at Thai restaurants weekly and this by far has been the worst experience. As new residents to Scottsdale, we were on a quest for excellent and fresh Thai food.
I skeptical upon entering Thai Pan, as the aroma of fine Thai cuisine was not present.
I was not impressed by the ordering system.
For me, part of the luxury of dining out at a Thai restaurant is seeing the actual food quality.
Our order consisted of what is considered to be Thai staple dishes, curry and pad thai. Both dishes are equivalent to the Ribeye or Porterhouse steak at steak restaurant. The food we were served looked nothing like the food shown in a review Thai Pan-tastic.
The food portions are small for the price tag of $10 per entree. We ordered Thai spicy, which there was no heat whatsoever. The Panang Curry was a very light yellow not the deep yellow/ brown as a good curry should be. There was no flavor nor hints of fresh chiles to any of our entrees, not as Thai food should be.
The Pad Thai was the equivalent to the creamette egg noodles for 79 cents per bag at the grocery store mangled with cream of mushroom sauce--you know the kind all grandmothers make. The consistency of the Pad Thai was sticky, tasteless, and over cooked.
Oh, did I mention for anyone who may want pork, there is no pork at Thai Pan. You will also not find the staple chili sauce among Thai establishments around the world as well..
I would not suggest this to anyone in search of true Thai food. This is Asian fusion at best. I would compare eating at Thai Pan with that of someone who wants to experience what authentic Mexican food is and decides to eat at Chipotle..
Sorry chef, this is not Thai food. Your interpretation is off, and I would say pack your knives and leave the kitchen! But then again, there are a lot of people who have not eaten true Thai food that you may be able to fool with this lackluster version..
This was our family dining out experience and we all feel very cheated by the glowing reviews that did not compare whatsoever.
