Review content:
Hired a tile installer based on the recommendation of one of their designers. Young's Tile, owned by Miles Young, was one of the worst experiences ever dealing with a contractor. Accent on Tile did everything I would expect them to to assist with this situation. Contractor failed to show on day set to start & did not call. When tracked down provided a new start date. Crew showed on agree date. Crew was to install tile on kitchen fireplace, which included a ""carpet design"" in the center. Miles attempted to change the design of the ""carpet"" by saying it was too complicated to execute. After a heated exchange he left his crew to finish the discussion. We agreed on a compromise design and the crew proceeded to install the center design. The installed center design was way off-center& was noticiable well before the crew was finished. The problem, brought to attention of crew resulted in a shrug of the shoulders and a cigarette break. Crew returned & continued to set tile despite being told that job was unsatisfactory. Owner showed up. I overheard crew telling Miles that design was off-center and that customer was dissatisfied. Miles returned, looked at design & left. Being Friday, 4PM he & crew cleaned up & proceeded to leave w/o a word about the off-center design. A message was left with Miles the following day informing him of my dissatisfaction with the work of his crew and requesting he call to discuss. 3 days went by w/o contact from Miles. I sought the opinion of 2 other tile installers who both described the work as unprofessional & lazy. On 3rd day I contacted him to confirmed he received my message. He confirmed that he did but attempted to shrug it off saying they would look at it when they returned to finish the grouting, but might not be able to do anything if insufficient tiles to make the correction. He was advised that he would have to purchase additional tiles at his expense to make the corrections. Miles did not ackowledge that there was any problem or that he would take responsibility for his crew's poor work. He said he would have a crew at the house that same afternoon. Crew failed to show. Over the next 2 weeks Miles provided one excuse after another for why a crew was unavailable to return to fix the problem & finish the project. After 3 weeks I requested Accent on Tile intercede. Over a 4 day period they contacted Miles each day instructing him to make contact with me to discuss the problem & what he intended to do about it. On the 4th day Miles called and simple said he would have a crew out the following week. I confronted him with whether he was taking responsibility for the problem with the installation. Again he said he would look at it when they came the next week. Frustrated with more of the same from this contractor & his failure to take responsibility for the problem I informed him that I had no confidence in his ability to correct the problem, no confidence he would take ownership & no confidence he would show as promised. I informed him his services were no longer needed & requested a refund against the work he failed to complete. A complaint was also filed with the BBB. A 2nd contractor was hired to finish the project. His opinion was that there was no reason why the original installer could not have installed the ""carpet"" as it was designed and that it would have resulted in a much better outcome. He also pointed out several other areas where Miles' crew took shortcuts. He also described the work as lazy. There is much more to say than this space allows.
