In the field of Pain Treatment there are a few masters of the craft. The biggest name in the SF Bay Area is Dr. Elliot Krames. Dr. Marilee Schuchard studied and interned under the tutelage of Dr. Krames, acquiring his best skills. Providing treatment for severe chronic pain is both an art and a science. Dr. Schuchard mastered the science while gently and compassionately practicing the art. This results in a pracrtice that I consider to be the finest available. I have suffered from severe chronic pain since 1973, so I am unfortunately extremely experienced in the way this field evolved. In 1973, at even the finest teaching hospitals, chronic pain sufferers were considered to be malingerers if their pain lasted more than 6 months. This has transitioned to a place where pain sufferers are treated with a kinder and gentler regime. Dr. Schuchard helped in this transition and practices with an aim toward treating the patient, her family and friends, and all aspects of her life. She embraces the use of psychology and psychiatry and will stop at nothing to alleviate her patient's suffering. She has been treating me since about 1990. Having seen and experienced a wide variety of pain treatment specialists, I am confident when I unequivocally state that she is the best. Pros: She is the best pain treatment specialist.
