Come on now, i can't believe I'm the first one to review Soundscape.Chief Engineer Matt Harrington and Engineer/ Producer Doug Kasper and I go way way back to the late 80's when Matt was my live soundman, and I met Doug shortly after hiring Matt, when my friend Julie was dating him (they are married for several years and have a beautiful family now). I got a visit from Doug and julie at a concert I was doing, opening for Yngwie Malmstein at Graffiti in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, and Doug asked if I'd be interested in starting up a studio. I had finished school for engineering a couple years prior to this, and lept at the chance. The first place we opened was Southside Studio (guess where) and then a year later he found out that the old Alphastar studio, where Nason Gieg used to Produce my band and half the bands in the city, had been just sitting there empty since he passed away. We got all our gear in and upgraded some of it, and Doug put me in charge of coming up with a list of names for the place. On that list was Sounscape, because I like to mix with my eyes closed and see each instrument in its place aurally, rather than tweeking out tones that leave you guessing. So I worked there part time as an assistant engineer for a few years, then as an engineer, and then finally as a Producer. Hundreds of excellent records, thousands of songs, and so much talent on both ends of the board all the time. The acoustics are awesome for drums, horn sections, group vocals, and the equipment list is far superior than any studio your going to find in that price range, that's for sure. Don't take my word for it, call them and tell them about this review. - Tim Aymar
Pros: Not in the middle of Pittsburgh where parking rates are atrocious. The lounge is very homey, and the coffee is the best around. The people there are the best you'll ever meet.
Cons: I don't work there anymore. wink wink.
