I chose this hotel based upon its location and good internet reviews. The Palmetto Inn and Suites used to be a two story motel and was recently built up to the 7 story Inn and Suites. (But is still known as the Palmetto Motel) It was actually pretty nice but the owner doesn't want spring breakers or partyers at her hotel. I found this out a little late. The room was fine itself. I had a great first day kayaking in the ocean then a helicopter ride then an every ride pass at the carnival. Back to the hotel. The cab companies that I called would not pick us up at the Palmetto. I wonder if it's because the owner is mean. A nice young man who works at the hotel ended up driving us. It turns out that the owner is a woman with some control issues. I complained to the front desk by phone that I was awakened too early by cheap cigarette smoke coming from the adjoining room two days in a row. The owner lady comes and bangs on my door. I should have known by that knock that something was wrong. I let her come in the room although I had just gotten up. She proceeded to snoop around the room and accuse me of doing the smoking. She said someone smelled marajuana. She was going on about that she had evicted the people on the 5th floor the night before for smoking marajuana. Although I am a very vocal medical marajuana proponent. I can't smoke it without being sick for three days so I don't. I'm such a respectful person when staying in a hotel or a persons home. I am just surprised. I felt bad the whole Saturday. On Sunday, just before check out time one of the maids banged on the door in a very rude way. I let her have it. I hope this actually helps somebody because it's not so pleasant to write. I am going to return to Panama City because I want to do the dinner cruise and the pirate cruise still but not to this hotel. The weather is great in mid March.
