This is my experience with Brewster Dental Care.
Since hurricane Irene hit this past week, a filling fell out of a wisdom tooth, and the area is now infected. I live in Putnam county New York, and have Medicaid. There are only TWO dentists in my county that I was referred to -- (after calling and speaking to several medicaid representatives) a dentist in Patterson which have no power, and Brewster Dental Care. The first thing one of the lady's that picked up the phone told me, is that they deny nobody ( keep this in mind ) (and by denying no one, im sure they are flexible with making payments) Anyway, Once i mentioned ""MEDICAID"" the tone of the conversation drastically changed. Keep in mind; they are on my list of Medicaid providers. Now I will get right to the point. After playing phone tag for 2 days, the good people that work for Dr. Anthony Escriva are telling me They take medicaid, but in MY CASE they refuse me treatment because they will not receive payment in the manor that they wish [Example, cash, credit, so-on] because there was an issue with my HMO(Amerigroup) the issue being they do not take dental. In this case, medicaid covers what the individuals plan cannot cover.
Apparently, this is to much work for them. They're main concern was guarantee of payment, according to the kind lady's that answer the phone, the medicaid rep they spoke to told them that I am incorrect, and medicaid will not pick up the bill. I have spoken to over a dozen medicaid representatives who all have told me the EXACT OPPOSITE, that medicaid covers what the hmo does not (AS FAR AS DENTISTRY IS CONCERNED) So I asked for the # of who gave her this information. I was given a random # both times I inquired. So I offered to come in the next day, so I can prove to them and assure them what medicaid has been telling me the past 48 hours, by puting them on the phone (and making sure they are not lieing to me) because I got the feeling they were now just brushing me off. MIND YOU this whole time I am in extreme pain, just coming back from the emergency room - These people call me back, and tell me not to show up the next day, and if I show up or call back, they will CALL THE POLICE ON ME AND PRESS CHARGES FOR HARASSMENT - in the background, A Man (who I assume is Dr. Escriva) is going on about how this is not a public clinic where any medicaid bum can walk in. He kept going, but I was hung up on. If you accept medicaid, if you are on the medicaid referal list, why are you acting like this? I am in extreme pain, and yet all I am is a medicaid bum. This is my experience with Brewster Dental Care.
